Grocer Occupies 49,200 Square Feet at Eastman-Managed Shopping Center

IRVINGTON, N.J. – Key Food Stores recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest SuperFresh location at Lyons Plaza in Irvington, N.J. Located in the space formerly occupied by Pathmark, the fully modernized 48,720-square-foot store will provide consumers with one-stop shopping convenience, quality products and exceptional value. The 78,000-square-foot neighborhood shopping center is a joint venture of Eastman Companies and Samuel Pepper of Metropolitan Mortgage & Realty, Inc. and the Arlyn/Lysar Companies.

Florian Suserman and Stephanie Harris of Ripco Real Estate Corp. represented the landlord, and David Brecher and Robert Capatina of Space Realty Services Inc. represented the tenant.

“We look forward to providing shoppers with the variety, freshness and quality for which Key Food is known, along with exceptional levels of customer service,” said James Lee, the store’s general manager. “Lyons Plaza’s Essex County location presented a wonderful opportunity to create a grocery environment where those who live and work in the community can shop comfortably and also benefit from prices that are more competitive than other supermarkets in the area.”

Lee said the new SuperFresh store will have a positive economic impact on the community by creating numerous jobs, the majority of which are being filled locally.

SuperFresh of Irvington offers a large selection of grocery items including a bakery, fresh seafood, a deli, prepared foods, a butcher station, a wide variety of fresh produce, an extensive health and beauty department, and a pharmacy. Most notably, the store has a well-stocked international foods section, and carries many of the ingredients used in traditional Caribbean cooking such as oxtail, ackee, an assortment of beans and Haitian jasmine rice. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In conjunction with the official grand opening celebration, the store launched a sweepstakes offering shoppers the chance to enter and win various prizes including a five-day/four-night trip for four to Orlando, Fla. featuring round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and passes to the Walt Disney World theme parks. The drawing will take place on Dec. 25 and shoppers may enter the sweepstakes until Dec. 24. No purchase is necessary; limit one entry per household.

Located at the intersection of Lyons Avenue in Irvington and Fabyan Place in Newark, Lyons Plaza offers one of the premiere retail locations in this Essex County submarket. Conveniently situated off Route 78 and in proximity to the Garden State Parkway, the shopping center’s trade area serves a strong daytime and evening population.

Lyons Plaza’s tenant roster includes a mix of national, regional and local retailers including KicksUSA, GameStop, Rent-a-Center, Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, Macy Beauty Supply, Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken, Blimpies, MetroPCS, a hair salon, a nail salon, a convenience store and a dollar store. Space availabilities range from 1,000 square feet to 2,000 square feet.

“We are thrilled to welcome SuperFresh to Lyons Plaza,” said Peter Schofel, Eastman’s managing partner. “The store fills a void left by the closing of Pathmark, and in a very short period of time has generated considerable community excitement as well as increased consumer traffic to the center. This is a strong and successful grocery operator that knows how to accommodate the communities in which its stores are located. We are confident SuperFresh will contribute to the ongoing success of the center for years to come.”
